Our Story
A dry rub originally invented by a welder for wings -that is now being used on darn near everything. Find out why these spices are “one of the best things Dad used heat to fuse together!
Sometime in the late 1980’s, our dad Kirk Held, a welder from Fremont, Ohio took several bottles of spices from the grocery store and used them, one after the other, to season some chicken wings he was cooking on his grill. A 55-gallon drum cut in half with a frame made out of re bar (hey, it was the 80's, we didn't have much, and dad knew how to weld). From that day on, dad was known for his chicken wings. He was often asked to prepare them for parties, he was begged for the recipe and even asked to enter into grilling competitions. But here's the rub (pun intended), dad didn’t like to be in the spotlight. He liked being the guy that casually waved at the gentleman driving by pulling a great big boat up to Lake Erie, knowing good and well…he was the one who custom built the trailer hauling the boat! He would just smile. It was that passion and pride that helped him raise three great children. Yes, Kirk is gone. But his grill is still around and so are the spices.
Now that we have those spices carefully formulated to taste the same coming from a single easy to use bottle - We hope you will find Dad’s Wings as spicy and enjoyable as we did. And maybe, just maybe, they will remind you of American steel, big V-twin motorcycles and love of family just like they do for us. And if so, the man behind the welder’s mask is still smiling!
